"Free Radicals and What They Do to Your Body"
To understand free radicals, you first need to have a little understanding about cells and molecules. The human body is composed of cells which are composed of molecules. Molecules have at least one or more atoms of one or more elements that are joined by chemical bonds. Atoms consist of a nucleus, protons, neutrons, and electrons. The number of protons determines the number of electrons. Electrons orbit the atom and consist of multiple layers or "shells". The most important factor that determines an atom's chemical behavior is the number of electrons in the atom's outer shell. Atoms seek to reach maximum stability and will therefore continually try to fill their outer shells by either gaining or losing electrons to fill or empty the outer shells or by sharing their electrons by bonding with other atoms to complete their outer shells. The Formation of Free Radicals When weak bonds in atom molecules split, free radicals are created. Free radicals are very unstable and will quickly react with other molecules by trying to capture a needed electron to gain stability. When a free radical captures an electron, the molecule that lost the electron then becomes a free radical which starts a chain reaction which will generally cascade into the distuption of the entire cell. In humans, free radicals usually come in the form an oxygen molecule (O2). The oxygen molecule wants to be oxidized, and this oxidation process can sometimes be carcinogenic. Free radicals are the natural by-products of many processes within and among cells. They are also created by exposure to various environmental factors such as cigarrette smoke and radiation. The body can normally handle free radicals and will even create them to attack viruses and bacteria. However, outside factors like pollution, cigarette smoke, radiation (sunlight), etc will also create free radicals which can attack the body. These free radicals can cause damage to cell walls, certain cell structures, and genetic material within the cells. In the worst case scenario and over a long time period, such damage can become irreversible and lead to disease (e.g., cancer). Also, the more we age, the more free radicals we aquire so it is essential to consume antioxidants on a regular basis to eliminate these cell destroying free-radicals. Xocai healthy chocolate products contain more antioxidants per serving than any other product on the market. If you want to rid your body of free radicals and improve your health, there currently isn't anything better than Xocai healthy chocolate products that you can take to do so. |
